About this tool
Most photos straight from a phone are 3–8 MB, far more than a web page or an upload form needs. Lowering JPEG or WebP quality to around 70–80% usually cuts the size by more than half with no visible difference. Reducing the pixel dimensions helps even more: a 4000-pixel-wide photo shown at 1200 pixels wastes over 90% of its data.
With Target size, the tool searches for the highest quality that fits under your limit, which is handy for portals that only accept files under 100 KB or 500 KB. PNG files are re-encoded as WebP or JPG for real savings, because PNG is lossless and cannot be compressed much further.
Frequently asked questions
How much can I compress an image?
Typical photos shrink by 60–90% at 70–80% quality. Screenshots and graphics with large flat areas compress best as WebP or PNG.
Will compression reduce quality?
JPG and WebP compression is lossy, but at 75% or higher the difference is very hard to see. Compare the before and after sizes and preview before downloading.
Can I compress to an exact size like 100 KB?
Choose “Target size” and enter the limit. The tool finds the best quality that fits, and lowers the resolution if needed.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertBrightly processes files with JavaScript inside your browser. Nothing is sent over the network, and the files disappear when you close the tab. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
