About this tool
Files are encrypted with AES-256, the strongest standard PDF encryption, supported by Adobe Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, Edge and other modern readers. Permission limits (no printing, no copying) are honored by most readers but can be bypassed by some tools; the open password, however, can’t be removed without knowing it.
There is no way to recover a lost password, so store it somewhere safe.
Frequently asked questions
How secure is the encryption?
AES-256 with a strong password (12+ characters) is effectively unbreakable. Weak passwords can be guessed by brute force, so choose a long one.
Can I remove the password later?
Yes, with the Unlock PDF tool, as long as you know the password.
Is my password sent anywhere?
No. Encryption happens in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertBrightly processes files with JavaScript inside your browser. Nothing is sent over the network, and the files disappear when you close the tab. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
