About this tool
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container). The files are about half the size of JPGs, but Windows, many websites and older apps can’t open them. This converter decodes HEIC with the open-source libheif library running inside your browser, so your photos never leave your phone or computer.
The first conversion downloads the decoder once (about 1.4 MB); after that it works quickly. Live Photos and burst files contain several images; the main image is converted.
Frequently asked questions
Is HEIC to JPG conversion lossless?
JPG is a lossy format, but at the default 92% quality the result is visually identical. Choose PNG if you need a lossless copy.
Can I stop my iPhone saving HEIC?
Yes: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG.
Does it keep the photo’s date and location?
No. The converted file has no EXIF metadata, which also protects your privacy when sharing.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. ConvertBrightly processes files with JavaScript inside your browser. Nothing is sent over the network, and the files disappear when you close the tab. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
