About this tool

DPI (dots per inch) is a tag that tells printers how big to print the image. A 3000×2000 pixel photo at 300 DPI prints at 10×6.7 inches; at 72 DPI it would be 41.7×27.8 inches. Changing the tag does not add or remove pixels, so quality is identical. For JPG the JFIF density field is edited; for PNG the pHYs chunk is written. Other formats are converted to PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing DPI improve quality?

No. It only changes the print size stored in the file. To print larger at high quality you need more pixels.

What DPI do printers want?

300 DPI is the standard for photos and print. 150 DPI is fine for large posters viewed from a distance.

Is the change lossless?

Yes. For JPG and PNG only the metadata bytes change; the image data is copied as-is.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. ConvertBrightly processes files with JavaScript inside your browser. Nothing is sent over the network, and the files disappear when you close the tab. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
